Understanding the Physics of Audio Streaming and Network Stability

Internet radio relies on continuous data packets decoded in real time. Unlike buffered video streaming, audio dropouts are instantly noticeable. For a stable connection, a physical Ethernet cable (Category 6 or higher) is always superior to wireless transmission. Copper cabling eliminates the electromagnetic interference, signal attenuation, and channel congestion common in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands. If you must use wireless, position the receiver away from large metal objects, thick concrete walls, and other appliances that emit high-frequency signals, such as microwave ovens or cordless phones.

Optimizing Network Settings for Hi-Fi Playback

To ensure your receiver maintains a priority connection on a busy home network, access your router's administration panel to configure specific Quality of Service (QoS) rules. Assigning a static IP address to your receiver prevents connection drops when DHCP leases renew.
